Gas boiler Baxi: floor-mounted, wall-mounted, single-circuit, double-circuit, advantages, disadvantages, characteristics

Any heating equipment of absolutely all price categories has a limited resource. The service life of a gas boiler in the heating system of a private home depends on the complexity of the design, the materials used, production and assembly technology, the functionality of the automation and, of course, operating conditions. On average, gas boilers operate without problems for at least 7-10 years. In practice, there are models that have been in service for more than 17 years or, due to inappropriate operating conditions, 3-4 years.

In the article we will not only talk about the service life of models with different designs, but also determine what affects the service life of boilers and how it can be extended.

Wall-mounted models of gas boilers Baxi (Baxi)

Luna 3 comfort is a third generation heating device.

  • A special feature is the removable control panel with display. It can be placed in the next room and connected to the heater wired or wirelessly. The modification has a closed combustion chamber.
  • The design provides for separate regulation of the heating and intake water temperatures. The gas burner is made of stainless steel, which has an increased service life.
  • An electronic ignition is installed, allowing the flame on the burner to ignite smoothly. Luna 3 comfort is adapted to Russian gas supply conditions - it can operate at a pressure of only 5 millibars.
  • The model is capable of operating on main and liquefied gas. This device has three powers: 24, 25 and 31 kilowatts. There are options for installing an additional external hot water tank.

The Baxi Nuvola gas boiler is unique in the amount of heated water - 510 liters in 30 minutes. Available in two power options - 24.4 and 32 kW. The rest of the system is similar to Luna 3 comfort.

Baxi Main Fou, 4th generation wall mounted model. The compactness of the equipment (730 x 400 x 299 mm) allows you to hang it in any suitable place. The electronic control unit with display is intellectually understandable, anyone can understand it.

Types of boilers according to the method of removing combustion products

The fuel is burned in a special chamber, which can have a different design. Each type of boiler has its own firebox, which determines the efficiency and conditions of use of the unit, namely the location of its installation.

Turbocharged

Any boiler requires oxygen to operate. In such units, a forced draft fan is responsible for the air flow. Compared to other boilers, turbocharged boilers require a special chimney consisting of two pipes: air enters through one, and smoke is exhausted through the second.

Often, units of this type are used in conditions of insufficient free space, where it is not possible to equip a classic chimney. A distinctive feature is that turbocharged boilers are produced with low power - up to 35 kW, which is explained by the presence of a copper chamber, which requires gentle operation.

Atmospheric

This type of boiler is suitable for houses with a chimney with a diameter of more than 130 mm. The chamber here is open, and combustion products are removed naturally. This type of device is often called “atmospheric”.

The smoke outlet pipe of the Baxi boiler has a diameter of 121–122 mm, so aluminum corrugation with a diameter of 125 mm can be used as a pipe. This element is not afraid of high temperatures (up to + 400 °C) and easily stretches up to 3 meters. An alternative option is to install a stainless steel chimney pipe, but this will cost a little more. The design of the atmospheric unit does not provide for the installation of a turbine.

Power of Baxi gas boilers

Model Main 5 is a representative of the 5th generation of gas equipment. The electronics of the device are capable of controlling the gas in the exhaust pipe, changing the operating modes of all equipment.

  • Representatives of the economy class - Eco Four and ECO Compact are similar to other Baksi models, but have a low price and small sizes.
  • The 24-kilowatt member of the Baxi family, Fourtech, is a universal wall-mounted equipment.

Floor-standing gas boilers Baxi (Baxi)

The Baxi Slim is equipped with a cast iron heat exchanger, the power is 15-62 kW, and there is a self-diagnosis system with a small size. The Slim HPS modification is insulated with fiberglass, and the Slim EF has a burner with a thermocouple.

  • The condensing model reaches a power of 650 kW, efficiency is 98%.
  • The cost starts from 160,000 rubles. Used to heat large rooms.

How to set it up correctly

The purchased boiler is delivered to the premises and installed in a designated area. All relevant pipelines are connected to the pipes - water, gas, coolant.

Initial boiler setup:

  • Electricity is connected.
  • The gas supply valve opens.
  • The desired operating mode is set - “summer” or “winter”.
  • By pressing the corresponding buttons on the sides of the display, the temperature of the extract air and domestic hot water is set.

After this, the burner will start and the boiler will start working. An error may appear and the boiler may block, which occurs due to the presence of air in the system.

In such situations, the error is reset by pressing the “R” button and everything is repeated until a positive result is obtained.

Features of Baxi boilers

Thanks to the modulation pump, significant savings occur in gas and electricity. Due to the formation of condensate, the efficiency increases. Special burners allow all equipment to operate smoothly, eliminating various system overloads.

Smart electronics monitor weather conditions, switching the system to the optimal operating mode. The result is cost savings.

The device can be programmed for 7 days. If there is electricity, the gas heater will start automatically.

The Baksi display will promptly report system malfunctions using symbols; all information is stored in memory.

Differences from gas appliances from other manufacturers:

  • Availability of a pump with automatically variable speed. This allows you to save energy;
  • Two-way brass valve with servo drive;
  • Two heat exchangers - copper and stainless steel;
  • Electronic water flow meter in the hot water supply system;
  • Availability of a filter for water purification;
  • The emergency bypass has automatic valves;
  • Possibility of connecting additional boilers for hot water.

Types of units by heat exchanger type

The devices are single- and double-circuit. The former are capable of heating water only for the heating system, while the latter can serve as a flow-through gas water heater. Accordingly, they have different heat exchangers installed.

Primary

Such elements are always tubular and look like a monometric device located under the burner. This copper component is responsible for heating the coolant.

Primary elements are installed only in single-circuit boilers, but they are not as common as units with two circuits due to the slight difference in cost.

All Baxi heat exchangers are made from high quality materials - copper and brass. They provide special processing, which makes them reliable and gives them high physical characteristics.

Secondary

They are plate heat exchange surfaces. Energy transfer is carried out through sanitary water. The elements got their name because of their shape - these are stainless steel plates combined with each other.

A secondary heat exchanger is needed for the boiler to work both for heating and for the DHW system (hot water supply).

Bithermal

These copper elements operate on the “pipe-in-pipe” principle. They are designed to heat the coolant for the heating system and hot water supply. They heat water efficiently, but they definitely require that the coolant be of high quality. If the liquid is supplied with many impurities, then thin pipes quickly become clogged, resulting in reduced boiler efficiency.

Choosing a Baxi boiler model

When choosing the right device, you should consider the following aspects:

  • The power of the device directly affects the financial costs of purchase and further operation. Insufficient power will lead to uncomfortable room temperatures;
  • Is there a need to purchase a boiler with an electrical connection;
  • Do you need hot water drainage?
  • Installation method: wall or floor;
  • What metal is the heat exchanger made of?
  • Correspondence between the hood in the house and the combustion chamber of the device.

When choosing a Baksi model, you should listen to the advice of a specialist.

What do you pay attention to when choosing

The choice of boiler unit is made independently by the buyer, so you need to know what the service life depends on. For gas units, it is initially interconnected with design features and correctly selected power.

A lack of thermal power leads to an increase in the load on the heat exchanger, burner device and circulation pump.

Excessive power is considered no less problematic. It triggers the clocking process of the automatic boiler, when it begins to quickly turn on/off. In practice, it has been proven that unsteady conditions cause increased wear.

Therefore, it is important to correctly determine the thermal power of the boiler before purchasing. For this, a practical ratio is used: for 10 m2 of heated area, take 1 kW of power and take a power reserve of 10-15%.

For example, to heat a house with a heated area of 200 m2, you will need a unit with thermal power:

200/10Х1.15= 23 kW

Advantages and disadvantages

There are turbocharged models for apartments and for installation in a chimney in a private house.
The pros and cons of the Italian device are determined by its design and quality of parts. Advantages:

  • The BAXI Eco Four 24 F double-circuit boiler can heat the house and heat water for the bathroom and kitchen.
  • The unit is automated. Setting it up is easy; the boiler itself develops the operating mode to ensure a comfortable temperature.
  • Adapted to work with very low pressures and at low temperatures.
  • The security unit is well designed; literally all situations are covered. Moreover, the boiler itself performs some actions to prevent them.
  • Operates without interruption for more than 30 years.
  • The system is equipped with pumps, but the boiler operates almost silently.

Flaws:

  • the boiler is volatile - if the current is turned off, operation is impossible;
  • high price;
  • the tank volume is small;
  • Expensive parts, but repairs are done quickly.

The device is not too sensitive to water quality according to European standards. If the water hardness exceeds 200 mg of calcium salts per 1 liter of liquid, it is necessary to install a polyphosphate filter for softening.

For which rooms is it best suited?

Baxi Main 24 Fi boilers are designed and designed for use in residential premises - houses or apartments of the appropriate size. They are often installed in office or public spaces.

Such units are not recommended for use in industrial workshops, since the specifics of the work will be too harsh and will cause rapid failure of the unit..

The declared area of the heating circuit is 240 m2, although in practice it is not recommended to use this model for rooms larger than 200-220 m2 due to the gradual decrease in the boiler's capabilities resulting from contamination, the appearance of scale and general wear and tear of the unit components.

Price range

Prices for Baxi Main 24 Fi boilers are in the region of 39-41 thousand rubles. When planning a purchase, you should remember that this amount does not include the cost of a warranty agreement, delivery, purchase of a chimney and other expenses.

You should not save money and refuse to enter into a warranty agreement. Any breakdown may require much greater expenses than the cost of a contract with a service center.

What functions does it have?

Set of functions of the Baxi Main 24 Fi boiler:

  • Heating of coolant and hot water.
  • Organization of circulation of the heating agent along the heating circuit.
  • Self-diagnosis system.
