Basic malfunctions of gas boilers of various types

A gas boiler is considered the most economical option for water heating equipment for a private cottage or apartment, taking into account the cost of fuel consumed and consumption. Efficiency in resource consumption is achieved by automatically adjusting the system to turn the device on and off when a certain temperature is reached. However, if a malfunction occurs, the boiler stops turning off when the set temperature is reached, constantly wears out and uses resources inefficiently. The most common reasons for failure of the boiler on and off control system include breakdown of the automation, installation and selection errors of the boiler, and others. This review describes the malfunctions and how to resolve them.

Excess power

If you think that installing a powerful gas boiler in a small room is the right decision, you are mistaken.
The power of heating equipment must be calculated accurately, and excess power is as much a problem as its lack. Of course, installing a boiler whose power is not enough to heat the house is also bad, so you should be careful before purchasing heating equipment. perform all calculations. If you cannot do this yourself for some reason, use the services of a professional.

The following parameters influence the determination of the power of a gas boiler for a private home:

  • climatic conditions of the area;
  • area of premises;
  • what materials the house is built from;
  • how and with what the house is insulated;
  • what kind of windows and doors.

In order not to calculate the value yourself, you can use a special program that will help you accurately determine what power the boiler should have in order for it to function efficiently in your home.

Gas boiler mechanism failure

How to solve a problem

If you have already purchased heating equipment for your home, but its power is off scale, you need to look for adequate solutions to the problem. First of all, you should familiarize yourself with how often the gas boiler should be turned on. This parameter is not the same for different models. But if the installed unit turns off for five minutes, then turns on for three and turns off again, it’s time to take some measures.

  • The optimal operating mode of the boiler, in which there is excess power, can be ensured by installing four-way mixing valves in the hydraulic system. This option is effective, but expensive.
  • Lower burner. This is only possible if the burner in the device is multi-stage.
  • Connection to the boiler boiler. This method will help not only reduce the power of heating equipment, but also provide the house with hot water.

Gas boiler connection diagram

Determination of the power of a single-circuit and double-circuit boiler is carried out according to different schemes. Experts recommend choosing boilers with the minimum power required to heat your home.

How to choose a backup power source?

The most popular option is an uninterruptible power supply, abbreviated as UPS. It provides a secondary power supply to the device in case of a short-term power outage on the line.

Most often, it is used to provide power to a computer so that a person has time to finalize, save information and exit the system in normal mode in the event of a power outage from the main source.

Of course, a regular uninterruptible power supply from a computer is not suitable for a gas boiler. The maximum that he can do is extend the functionality of the device by 2-3 minutes, since the output produces an approximation of a sine wave or a square wave, and the boiler requires a pure sine wave. Please take this into account when purchasing a device.

A competent choice of UPS for the boiler will allow you to ensure fuel supply even when there is a power outage on the line

Ideally, an uninterruptible power supply with a power of 300-600 W is suitable, with the ability to connect a battery up to 600 Ah. The capacity of such a battery will last for 3 days.

But if for some reason you want to save money, keep in mind that:

  • 50-100 Ah, will extend the operation of the boiler for a period of 3 to 8 hours;
  • 200 A*h is enough for about a day of uninterrupted functionality.

Outages longer than a day require a more powerful power source. And here it is best to choose an inverter gasoline generator, which also has a pure sine wave. With the help of these devices, the gas boiler will operate in a stable mode after the load is turned off.

Poor quality connection to the gas pipeline

If, during gas flow, the installation was performed poorly, the needle on the pressure gauge may not reach the desired mark.

To conduct gas, a thread is usually welded (especially in cases where workers do not want to connect a large section of the gas pipeline) and a tap is screwed in, resulting in a welded thread with a tap. The tap is opened and a hole is made with a drill. If the drill is of small diameter, and as a rule, the drill is much smaller than the pipe, the hole is obtained with a small throughput.

A sign of poor-quality tapping into the gas pipeline may be a sharp decrease in the flame immediately after the boiler is ignited. The flame may go out completely, or the boiler simply will not begin to gain temperature.

Tips and tricks for use

The instructions for the Beretta gas boiler from the manufacturer contain recommendations for users that will make the purchased device last a long time:

  • Do not open the gas valve yourself. You should call a specialist to avoid accidents. You can check the filter at the gas pipeline inlet if there are problems with its operation. However, this requires basic knowledge of the operation of gas boilers.
  • If during operation of the boiler the phase was reset due to incorrect connection of the plug to the socket, you should first try to place it in the correct position. If this doesn’t work and the coolant gives an error, you need to contact a technician.
  • When using the boiler for the first time, it is necessary to rotate the rotor on the circulation pump by unscrewing the washer, backing with a piece of cloth and turning the rotor to the left.
  • You need to check how the pressure and temperature sensors work when the device is turned off.
  • To check the connected contacts, you need to disconnect the wire from the sensor and then insert it back.
  • Adjust the power in strict accordance with the instructions.

Additional Information! It is recommended to periodically clean the external surface of the boiler, install the coolant 5 centimeters from the walls for ventilation and install a temperature thermostat to ensure rational use of energy resources.

In general, the instructions for the Beretta gas boiler involve step-by-step installation with special equipment by professional gas workers, as well as careful use of the device followed by annual maintenance.

Reasons why the gas boiler does not turn off

Gas boilers operate on the following principle:

  • the user sets the desired temperature value on the thermostat;
  • the boiler begins to heat the coolant;
  • when the required values are reached, the sensor sends a signal to the control board, which turns off the unit;
  • when the coolant temperature drops, the heating is turned on again.

But it happens that the boiler has reached the desired temperature, but does not turn off. Why does a gas boiler work without stopping? Experts talk about a number of reasons.

The temperature sensor does not work

Temperature sensors are installed on the supply and return lines of the heating system. If at least one of them breaks, then it cannot send a signal that the required temperature has been reached. As a result, the gas boiler does not turn off. You can fix the situation like this:

  • check the functionality of the sensors;
  • inspect whether the wiring is connected to them correctly;
  • clean oxidized contacts;
  • replace the broken part.

Low return temperature

The coolant cools quickly if the room is poorly insulated or there is a leak somewhere in the system. With poor thermal insulation, the temperature of the liquid inside the system quickly cools down. The boiler, in turn, tries to maintain the desired temperature - as a result, it works constantly and does not turn off.

In this case, you need to better insulate your home, then the problem will disappear. For example, poor thermal insulation of a roof is determined by the size of the icicles - the more of them, the worse the thermal insulation. Snow accumulates on the roof and actively melts under the influence of escaping heat.

It is also necessary to check the heating system for leaks. If a leak is detected, the problematic element should be replaced.

The coolant moves slowly through the pipes

Slow circulation of coolant through the system is usually associated with clogged filters. You need to remove them and clean them of dirt.

Sometimes the reason lies in the operation of the circulation pump. It may be necessary to increase the coolant flow rate by adjusting the pump.

Clogged heat exchangers

If there is no filter at the entrance to the gas boiler, then deposits of potassium and magnesium salts gradually accumulate in the heat exchangers, which settle during heating. In this case, the heat exchanger, when heated, cannot transfer enough heat to the liquid, since it is hampered by a thick layer of deposits. As a result, the coolant does not warm up to the required temperature and the gas boiler operates without stopping.

This problem is solved by cleaning the clogged heat exchanger. A conventional circuit is quite easy to dismantle and clean with special reagents.

Note! If you have a gas boiler with a bithermic heat exchanger, then you will not be able to clean it. Due to its complex design, such a circuit becomes clogged faster than a regular one.

You will have to purchase a new element and install it in place of the old one.

In order not to frequently clean the circuits from scale, it is recommended to purchase and install a magnetic filter that will prevent the deposition of salts.

Other reasons

Sometimes the reason that a gas boiler runs continuously is due to incorrect settings. It is possible that the thermostat is set to an insufficient temperature to heat the available area. Then it is necessary to adjust the optimal temperature.

If your unit has a modulation-type burner, you should make sure that its power is sufficient for heating. Perhaps you need to reconfigure it to a more productive level. Another reason could be a faulty outdoor thermostat programmer. You should check its functionality and replace faulty elements.

Continuous operation of a gas boiler is sometimes associated with errors in the piping. You need to check that all nodes are connected correctly.

The most serious reason, which cannot be eliminated on your own, is a malfunction of the electronic control board. Its diagnosis and repair should only be carried out by a service center specialist.

The heat exchanger is clogged

During operation of the heating system, deposits of combustion products are formed in the heat exchanger, as well as solid salt deposits in the form of scale inside the combustion chamber. As a result, heat transfer is significantly reduced. In particularly advanced cases, a thick layer of scale is a poor conductor of heat; as a result, the flame does not heat the water to the required temperature.

There are several ways to completely clean the heat exchanger:

electric discharge method “Streamer” is a complex procedure that allows you to clean the heat exchanger from an old layer of soot and soot without harming the walls of the chamber itself; hydrodynamic method using a high-pressure pump - an express method for slight contamination of the heat exchanger, which allows you to clean the chamber without removing it; chemical flushing with a booster is an option that allows you to remove old layers of soot and tar, but this method must be used carefully so as not to damage the walls of the heat exchanger; cationization method to remove scale inside the heat exchanger; "reverse osmosis" as a method of descaling; use table vinegar (3-10% acetic acid solution) in equal parts with water, the duration of exposure to combat scale is approximately 12 hours, after using the solution the heat exchanger must be rinsed with water. Only some of these methods are available for cleaning the heat exchanger yourself

The first three methods of getting rid of soot and soot require special equipment and are carried out by specialists. After this procedure, the boiler will switch to normal operation and begin to turn off. Heating costs will also be reduced

Dilemmas with cravings

If before the incident the equipment was operating normally, but now the fuel supply is blocked due to the automatic valve, there may be several reasons simultaneously (and separately).

The most common reason for the extinguishing of a gas boiler in a private house is a decrease or disappearance of draft.

The first step here is to check the traction. A match or lighter is brought to the viewing window.

If the fire deviates away from the combustion compartment, then the draft is normal. With a vertical static flame it is absent.

Then the draft in the chimney is studied. A part of the tube connected to the outlet pipe is removed.

The presence of traction is checked in a similar way. If the verdict is positive, you need to clean the channels of your boiler. If negative, the chimney itself.

Soot deposits, combustion products, leaves and other debris can accumulate in it.

If pollution is concentrated at the entrance, cleaning operations are performed independently. If there are problems in the upper zone, the intervention of craftsmen with professional tools is necessary.

Also, private houses are characterized by such a dilemma as reverse draft. And a gas boiler often goes out in strong winds if the chimney is not protected by a deflector. Because of this, the exit of smoke through the chimney to the outside is blocked; it returns to the combustion chamber and knocks out the flame.

If the specified protection is available, then such traction is formed due to two factors:

  • congestion in the chimney inside the building,
  • contamination in the outer zone of the chimney.

Methods for solving the problem are as follows:

  1. Installation of a protective cap (deflector) at the end of the chimney.
  2. Extension of this pipe by 1-2 m.

Three-way valve

A three-way valve is installed in boilers with two heat exchangers. When a signal is received from the flow sensor, the electronics gives a signal to the valve and the heated water from the first heat exchanger is sent to the second heat exchanger, where the heat is transferred to the passing tap water. If, for example, no actual switching occurs (the valve is faulty), then the coolant will continue to circulate in the heating circuit and no heat transfer to the hot water circuit will occur.

If, for example, a valve only partially closes the heating circuit due to a malfunction, then there will be problems with insufficient heating of hot water, since part of the heat will go to the heating system.

The gas boiler is ticking, what should I do? — Handyman's Handbook

Today, gas heating boilers are the most common devices for heating homes. Choosing the right boiler based on power and other necessary criteria will help you avoid many problems in the future.

The following functionality is usually considered as selection criteria:

  • Heating circuit diagram. The subsequent choice of the boiler depends on the choice of the type of circuit, which may be energy dependent or will not require electricity for its operation.
  • Single-circuit or double-circuit boiler. You need to decide to purchase a separate indirect heating boiler or a double-circuit boiler.
  • Combustion chamber type. They are open or closed. Popular wall-mounted boilers usually have a closed chamber and a coaxial chimney. To effectively remove combustion products, a forced draft fan is installed. For open circuits with non-volatile boilers, a chimney with good natural draft is needed to operate the open combustion chamber.
  • Selecting the boiler type. Depending on the area of the premises and the heating scheme, the type of boiler selected is wall-mounted or floor-standing. Typically, for rooms with an area of more than 300 m2, a floor-standing boiler is installed.

Why does my gas boiler keep switching off? Causes and solutions

The gas boiler system is responsible for several functions - heating the room, providing hot water supply. Sometimes, during the coldest period, a malfunction may occur, leading to equipment shutdown. An unpleasant situation most often occurs during the heating season, so in order to eliminate the breakdown as quickly as possible, you need to know the main causes of the breakdown.

Reasons for frequent switching on and off of a gas boiler

It happens that a new installed device, after configuration and commissioning, begins to turn on and off too often. Although such a device should automatically regulate its operation, such a process clearly indicates a failure in the system. This can have a detrimental effect on the life of the device, because the working elements begin to wear out quickly, and the device itself will fail.

Self-extinguishing burners is the main malfunction of gas boilers

There are reasons why a heated boiler fires quite often. In any case, it is better to contact a specialist if you lack professional experience, because you need to be careful when manipulating blue fuel. The main reasons for turning heating equipment on and off at frequent intervals:

  • incorrect device selection. The power is provided for a large room, and the unit was installed in a small room;
  • incorrect installation of the circulation pump;
  • the temperature range is incorrectly set;
  • There is no thermostat in the room, for this reason the operating state of the device is adjusted according to the temperature readings of the coolant.

Important! This problem is quite simple, but there are times when the device has to be replaced with another model

Problems of open-type atmospheric boilers

There are a number of reasons that affect the working process of the device, which worked properly for some time, and then suddenly begins to go out.

Traction problems

To check the device for this problem, bring a lit match to the main window. If there is draft, then the fire will deviate to one side; if there is no draft, the flame will burn evenly.

Checking draft in a gas boiler

The main factors influencing traction disorders:

  1. Lack of proper ventilation. The air intake is carried out from the room; a window is required for ventilation. Natural ventilation is required to maintain the flame. You must open the window to resume operation of the device.
  2. Weather. Adverse weather conditions negatively affect the working process of the chimney. If a foreign object gets into the shaft, backdraft may occur, leading to carbon monoxide poisoning.
  3. Ice formation. The accumulation of condensate on the shaft walls leads to icing of the part, and consequently a barrier is formed for normal draft and smoke removal. This reason must be eliminated in the following way - knock off the frozen layer, insulate the walls of the mine.
  4. Sooty accumulation. Simultaneously connecting a gas appliance and a solid fuel model leads to a similar problem. In this situation, it is better to resort to the help of utility services.
  5. Pipe burnout. The part must be completely replaced.

How to solve a problem like this

Modern heating equipment that runs on gas fuel is equipped with a special control board with an information display or indicators. If there is no indication, you need to check whether power is supplied to this control panel. As a rule, the boiler is connected to the network through a separate channel, so it must be checked first to see if it is disconnected. You can verify this using a multimeter: the voltage on it should be 220V in the place where it is connected to the board. If there is no voltage, you need to localize the problem. Sometimes it is enough to insert a pulled plug into the socket.

There is also no voltage supplied to the panel due to the failure of the fuses.

If the device does not turn on due to poor ventilation, you must:

  • organize good ventilation;
  • install valves on window packages;
  • open the window in the room with the boiler to ensure air flow

Important! Before turning on the boiler, you need to check whether there is draft inside the chamber. For this purpose, light a match and bring it to a window or chimney branch.

If draft is present, the flame will deviate in the direction of air movement. And if it is absent, the flame of the match will be even.

If the device does not turn on the first time, you need to check the pipes for gas leaks, for which they are lubricated with a soapy foam layer. Bubbles will appear where there is a leak. In this case, it is necessary to turn off the valves, open the window and call the emergency gas service.

Something to remember! It is unacceptable to look for a gas leak by inspecting the pipe with an open flame (matches, lighter). A soap solution is required.

If the meter fails, its readings do not change, and noise is heard. You cannot eliminate such a malfunction on your own. A master is needed here.

Problems with improperly functioning traction leading to automatic shutdown of equipment. To prevent such phenomena from occurring, during installation it is necessary to take into account the requirements for the standard height of the chimney: it must be at least 50 cm above the ridge and at a distance on the roof of more than 1.5 m from it. Compliance with these conditions will avoid problems with traction operation.

Gas equipment is not equipped with a system that enhances draft, so in case of weak draft or its absence, debris gets into the chimney.

If the pump is jammed, the boiler should be stopped and the problem should be repaired.

If an attempt to turn on the boiler occurs after a long shutdown, you can use antifreeze as a coolant. It doesn't freeze if the temperature is too low. This will allow the system to start up after being idle.

All boilers with a closed combustion chamber (for example, Buderus, Wolf and some other models) have fans installed. They are designed to remove combustion products. If you hear sounds indicating a malfunction of their operation, diagnosing and replacing the element in case of breakdown will help.

If the boiler turns off and does not turn on, you need to check the burner nozzle to see if it is clogged. The part is cleaned of dirt, the photocell of the sensor is cleaned, and then the procedure for turning on the device is repeated. Diagnostics and replacement are also carried out in case of breakdown of the thermocouple, pressure and draft sensors.

The remote control is also checked, batteries are replaced, and the display is inspected. If the remote control does not work, the controller is diagnosed.

Sometimes, when starting up gas equipment, you cannot hear its operation (noise) and you smell gas, although other appliances (stove or gas water heater) are functioning normally, and the temperature outside is above +10 degrees Celsius. The cause may be a clogged igniter, because not enough gas passes through the nozzle.

There are problems with turning on the heating if the quality of the gas supplied to the boiler is extremely low.

If the noise is caused by scale, the boiler is adjusted to maximum heating. If the noise intensifies, the cause is definitely scale. Then it is necessary to add a chemical that dissolves scale to the heat exchanger and rinse it.

Introductory information

Automation EuroSit 630 is a multifunctional device that regulates the gas supply. It provides the ability to regulate the temperature and completely turn off the main burner.

Purpose:

  • automatic adjustment of gas supply;
  • control of the safety of gas equipment.

It is worth noting the difficult method of turning on the device. In his defense, we can say that in this way the manufacturer was concerned about the safety of its consumer and the safety of gas equipment.

Start of a gas boiler

The operation of a gas boiler begins with the start of the automation. In the situation of using the 630 EuroSit valve, the startup process will consist of several stages. They should be performed in accordance with the established order:

  • turning on the tap on the riser;
  • turning on the pilot burner;
  • turning on the main burner;
  • temperature adjustment and setting.

Step-by-step description of the startup procedure

The first step is to turn on the gas supply to the system. To do this, you need to open the tap on the riser.

Now you can start working on the gas valve. To do this, you need to concentrate on the control handle of the device. Initially, it is located in the “off” position. It must be moved to the “ignition” position (image of fire on the regulator). After this, you need to press the handle so that the forced supply of gas to the pilot (ignition) burner begins. Now you should press the piezo ignition button while continuing to hold the handle pressed. The presence of a flame on the pilot burner indicates that everything was done correctly. The handle should be kept pressed for the next ten seconds after pressing and while checking for the presence of flame. This must be done to start the gas boiler mechanism.

After ten seconds, you need to release the control handle and check again for the presence of a flame on the pilot burner. If there is no flame on the burner, then all the operations described above should be repeated. In this case, you will have to increase the time you press the control handle.

The electric boiler consists of the following components:

  • A heating element;
  • Safety valve;
  • Circulation pump;
  • Power control device;
  • Air valve;
  • Expansion tank;
  • Control Panel.

The most problematic elements of an electric boiler are the temperature sensor, the heating element and the electronic component of the boiler.

Boiler attenuation due to reasons within the system and their elimination

The most common reason for a boiler to go out is a lack of oxygen to the burner. This malfunction is inherent in economy class models, which are purchased more often than others. Expensive boilers have a special exhaust device that multiplies the air flow, maintaining combustion in all weather and internal conditions.

Lack of oxygen is a common cause of soot and gas burner extinguishing. The fire goes out because the missing air flows are captured from all the holes, the flame moves, the temperature of the thermocouple drops and the protection turns off the burner as if the temperature had reached the maximum value. Other reasons for the boiler burner to go out:

  1. In gas boilers with a turbocharger, a built-in electric fan helps pump air. If it does not work correctly, the burner may also go out. It's easy to diagnose a fan - when it's off, it continues to make noise.
  2. A non-functioning draft sensor is another reason for the boiler to fade. It should turn on if the temperature in the smoke catcher rises from hot steam, which for some reason did not enter the chimney.
  3. The burner does not ignite or burns poorly - the nozzles are clogged. Clean them with a brush or wire of the appropriate diameter.
  4. If air enters the boiler gas pipeline, the boiler operation is blocked and an error appears on the display. The reason why a gas boiler goes out can be easily eliminated - you need to start the boiler again, first unlocking it according to the instructions.
  5. During operation of the boiler, the gap in the igniter may be damaged or contact with the wire may be broken, or the air filter on the air line may become clogged. It is almost impossible to restore the gap with your own hands - you need the help of a gas specialist. But you can clean the filter and check the reliability of the connection of the current-carrying conductor yourself.
  6. The gas burner may not go out immediately, but after several minutes. The reason most often lies in contamination of the ionization electrode. Also, the correct gap in the electrode could be broken, or the connecting wire could fall off due to constant heating.
  7. The flame breaks away from the burner and goes out. Usually, the injector begins to make noise and whistle. The malfunction is eliminated by adjusting the gas pressure on the ignition electrode. The flame can break off if the draft is very strong - this phenomenon occurs with strong supply and exhaust ventilation.
  8. If the boiler is installed in a private house, then the flame may die out if the chimney pipe is installed very high.
  9. Spontaneous shutdown of the boiler, accompanied by strong noise, occurs due to a non-working pump or fan (explained above). A non-working thermostat causes the water to boil, followed by the flame breaking off.

Diagnostics is the surest way to understand the reason for the attenuation of a gas boiler.

If the voltage in the network fluctuates and decreases, the boiler burner may go out - the automation is activated, which recognizes the low voltage. After the power is restored to normal, the protection turns the boiler back on, so most of these cases go unnoticed. However, unstable voltage has a negative impact on the operation of electronic protection systems.

And a very obvious reason for the burner to go out is low gas pressure in the line. This trouble can happen not only due to breakdowns in the external gas pipeline, but also due to internal problems.

  1. There is a malfunction in the gas meter. Check visually whether the mechanism is working and whether the numbers on the display are jumping. Even if this is the case, the malfunction may be delayed - and the meter is often noisy.
  2. Gas workers require the installation of monitoring equipment - gas leakage sensors and temperature sensors. They monitor compliance with the regimes around the boiler. When the sensors are triggered, the boiler turns off.
  3. The connections in the gas pipeline are leaky. A gas leak means low pressure, so the automation reacts immediately and the boiler turns off. If there is no leak sensor, then this type of malfunction is determined by the smell of gas. To identify the malfunction and eliminate it, check the joints on the line by applying soap foam - if there is a leak, the foam will bubble.

Blowing out the wick is the most common reason why a boiler goes out.

What happens after power supply is restored?

One of the most pressing questions for consumers is whether a volatile gas boiler will turn on automatically after a power outage?

Depending on the boiler model, after the electricity is reconnected, it may ignite automatically or only after manual starting. Devices with piezo ignition will require mechanical activation.

Devices with an atmospheric burner, as well as units with the above-mentioned pressurized system, are able to turn on independently, and even without losing the set automatic parameters, if they are equipped with electric ignition and a pressure switch.

However, auto-start does not always work either. After a large number of subscribers have lost power, when electricity is restored, the pressure in the gas pipeline may drop for some time; accordingly, the pressure switch is triggered, the equipment does not turn on, and then it can only be started manually.

For those for whom this issue is relevant, it is enough to install a delay relay or, as it is also called, a “time relay”. Then your boiler will not start immediately, but after some time, when the pressure in the gas pipeline is likely to equalize.

A time relay allows you to delay the automatic activation of electric ignition until the gas pressure is expected to equalize

In some cases, the electronic control module displays an error after power is supplied. This means that a minor emergency occurred before the shutdown. The decoding of the code can be found in the instructions for the heating device.

By the way, not all of them can be fixed on their own; to solve certain problems, you will need to call a specialist from GorGaz or the service department.

Other reasons for continuous operation of a gas device

Let's look at a few more reasons.

The device turns on and off frequently

Clocking indicates that the boiler power is too high, which is why the gas device is often turned on and off repeatedly. This is caused by incorrect settings of electronics, incorrect installation and use of radiators (distortions, kinks, narrowing of channels, blockages), and initially erroneous determination of the boiler power.

To resolve the issue, you need to adjust the set of settings yourself (up to 3 - 8%) or with the help of specialists. If the power of the radiators and the boiler settings do not match, it may be necessary to stop the operation of the gas boiler and replace it, or to increase the power of the radiators (possibly due to their number).

Slow movement of coolant in heating pipes

This is usually caused by constantly clogged filters. Cleaning them solves the problem. Also, if the circulation pump is faulty, it is worth increasing the coolant speed by adjusting the pump settings.

Presence of condensation on the chimney pipe

When the heating season is in full swing, you may encounter icing and a decrease in the chimney clearance as a result. This is possible due to the formation of condensation on the pipe of the device when exhaust hot vapors rise upward and cool. To resolve this issue, you will need to remove ice or warm up the chimney duct.

The temperature of the gas boiler does not increase when heated

The gas device may go out due to errors in setting the burner flame. As a rule, then the temperature is not higher than 50 - 60°C. In this case, it is necessary to remove the body of the gas boiler and adjust the flame strength on the burner regulator. See example of burner setup below.

Problems can be caused by low coolant flow rates, if there are leaks in pipes or radiators, errors in pump regulation, when shut-off valves are closed, or airing of the system.

Checking all connections in the radiators for leaks, setting a higher speed on the pump if it is low, checking whether water flows normally into all radiators, releasing excess air from the batteries when airing using Mayevsky taps will solve the problem.

How to clean a gas boiler from scale, procedure

So, we proceed as follows: you need to remove the cover, clean the electrodes and rinse with the detergent intended for this purpose, and then rinse. The injector and gas burner nozzles can be cleaned with a soft brush. After this, remove the fan and clean it. Remove the walls of the AGV combustion chamber. You can clean the heat exchanger of contaminants and rinse it with a special composition, as indicated above.

Next, clean the bottom of the boiler by removing the coil. It is better to blow out the cold water filter and rinse it with clean water. Do not forget to return all parts to their place and check the tightness of the device.

When antifreeze or hot water is too cold

The solution to the problem will depend on the cause of its occurrence. If there are problems with the solenoid gas valve, you need to fix them by adjusting the unit. When scale appears, flush the heat exchanger. Broken temperature sensors simply need to be replaced. It is advisable to use original spare parts.

If there is a weak pressure of hot water, then it is most likely a malfunction of the three-way valve. This is faced by those who have a dual-circuit unit. This valve supplies antifreeze to an additional heat exchanger or heating system. In the event of a breakdown, the coolant flows through both channels and causes low pressure.

If the gas boiler breaks down, namely there is no water heating, turn off the device and wait for the antifreeze to cool. Then try turning on the unit, then open the hot tap. Now check whether the pipe connected to the heating system heats up. If so, then antifreeze flows through both channels and the culprit of the malfunction is the solenoid valve, which needs to be replaced. If the antifreeze cools down very quickly, this may indicate a problem with the heating system. Water can cool quickly due to contamination of heating boiler filters, damage to pipes and radiators.

Diagnostic procedure for an atmospheric boiler. The principle of traction control.

In the atmospheric version of a gas boiler (with an open combustion chamber), combustion air is taken from the room. That is why for such boilers it is necessary to ensure normal air flow in the place where it is installed. To control draft in such boilers, a safety thermostat is often used. In atmospheric boilers, a draft stabilizer is used - this is a structural element of the boiler located above the burner, which is needed to ensure stable combustion and a dosed supply of secondary air. The safety thermostat is located on this stabilizer and reacts to temperature. If, when a gas boiler is burning, the draft is reversed (air from the chimney goes into the room, and not vice versa), the sensor will inevitably be heated by the exhaust gases and the operation of the boiler will be stopped.

Problems with smoke removal in atmospheric boilers may be due to design errors, clogged chimneys, lack of normal air flow or operation of exhaust devices. The use of such boilers within the range of additional exhaust devices is in principle not permitted.

To summarize, to diagnose a malfunction in the atmospheric version of the boiler in the event of a draft error, the following is required:

  1. Make sure that the air flow in the room and in the boiler is not blocked - the boiler is not overgrown with dust.
  2. With the equipment turned off, check that there is natural draft in the chimney and that it is directed out of the room. Experts can measure the amount of draft accurately with a device (special holes are provided in the boilers), the user can only “by eye”, by feeling, with a burning match or a strip of paper, etc. Often, boiler owners are convinced in advance that everything is fine with the draft! The probability of a control board malfunction for a traction error tends to zero! The reasons for blocking the chimney can be different: birds, spiders, dirt, ice, etc.
  3. Checking the serviceability of the thermostat (traction control sensor). The technique for most boilers is described above. The sensor in most cases is a bimetallic strip and has two positions: closed and open.

Installing a thermostat

Another reason for the frequent switching on and off of a gas heating boiler is that the operation of the equipment is regulated only by the temperature of the coolant. The water heated up to the required temperature, the device turned off, the water cooled, the boiler turned on. But the coolant cools much faster than the air in the room. Such management is not rational, since it increases fuel costs, the rooms can be hot, which, of course, will affect the comfort of residents.

The best way out of this situation is to install a room thermostat. The device is designed for automatic control of a gas boiler. The operation of the heating unit becomes more efficient, and it is possible to save on fuel. The system starts only when the air temperature in the room drops, and it can remain at this level as a result of sunlight entering the room or a crowd of people in the room.

The range of thermostats allows you to choose a model in accordance with your wishes and financial capabilities. The cheapest are mechanical products. They do not require special treatment and are durable and reliable. Much more difficult with modern programmers. These are devices that can be programmed, set certain options, set different temperatures depending on your needs.

For the efficient and economical functioning of the heating system, care should be taken to carry out the installation work correctly. You won't have to worry about how often your heating boiler should turn on if its operation is controlled by a thermostat. This will not only save on fuel, but will also extend the life of the heating equipment.

Commissioning of a floor-standing boiler

Introductory information

Automation EuroSit 630 is a multifunctional device that regulates the gas supply. It provides the ability to regulate the temperature and completely turn off the main burner.

Purpose:

  • automatic adjustment of gas supply;

  • turning on the tap on the riser;
  • turning on the pilot burner;
  • turning on the main burner;

If there is a flame on the pilot burner, then you can proceed to ignite the main burner. To do this, the control handle must be moved to position from “1” to “2”, turning it counterclockwise. The correctness of the actions will be indicated by the appearance of a flame from the main burner. After making sure that it is present, the control handle can be moved to positions from “1” to “7”. The position must be selected based on the coolant temperature needed to be obtained. In the situation with the EuroSit 630 model, the number 7 on the handle corresponds to a temperature of 90 degrees. This is the maximum possible value for the model. By following all these steps, starting the gas boiler will go without problems.

Disabling a device

To turn off the gas boiler, you must turn off the gas valve. There are two shutdown options:

  • turning off the main burner;
  • turning off the main and pilot burners.

In the first case, the control handle must be turned clockwise and set in the “ignition” position. The main burner will then be switched off, but the pilot burner will continue to operate.

In the second case, the same control knob must be turned clockwise until the “off” position is reached. These actions will stop supplying gas to all burners. A click will sound to confirm that the device is turned off. The flame will also disappear. The gas supply has now been stopped.

The water temperature does not correspond to the specified parameters

Significant deviation of water temperature from the specified parameters

The problem arises in two cases, when the water from the heater is either too hot (literally boiling water) at minimum heating values, or cold and heating does not occur at all. There is also an intermediate malfunction, when the maximum heater values are set, and the water is slightly warm. All problems deserve attention, the causes of which can be quite numerous.

So, let's consider a situation where the water heater, at maximum values on the relay, produces only warm water in the tap, which is preceded by the following possible problems:

  1. The heating element is covered with scale, it consumes more energy on heating, while the efficiency is at a minimum.
  2. There are problems in the central board that are blocking the relay signal to the desired temperature.

If the water heater visually turns on and supposedly works, but in fact only produces cold water, then the reasons may be similar to those stated above. When the temperature of the water is exceeded, the problem lies in a malfunction of the thermostat or thermostat, which is responsible for fixing the heating parameters set by a person and maintaining this temperature inside the water heater.

If the problem is related to temperature mismatch, you need to perform the following sequence of actions:

  1. Check the heating element for contamination and proper operation: disconnect the boiler from the mains, allow the water to cool and drain it as much as possible, then remove the protective cover at the bottom, open the valve and carefully remove the heating element. Using a multimeter, check the functionality of the element, which is fixed in the range of values 0.68-0.37 Ohm. If there is a break, the indicators will be unstable and will tend to infinity. If there is scale, it can be removed by soaking it in a special acid solution, which can be bought at any household store. Apple cider vinegar is an alternative.
  2. Take out the thermostat and evaluate its performance: disconnect the boiler from the network, drain the water, remove it from the wall. Find the thermostat (you can see in the instructions what it looks like and where it is located for a specific model) and press the safety button all the way. Next, the metal tube needs to be slightly heated with a lighter. If the thermostat is working, then when it heats up it will react and return the button to its original position. If this does not happen, then you should completely dismantle and replace the element with a new one.

Similarly, you should go through all available contacts with a multimeter, since there is a possibility of a break, which provokes a lack of proper operation.

Expert opinion Vadim Savelievich Grebnev Heating systems installer

Before draining the water, you need to let it cool. If you don’t have time to wait, then the following trick will do: open the hot water tap to maximum, unplug the boiler. After about 5-7 minutes, the water in the tank will become slightly warm, which will facilitate the process of draining it.
