Rating of the TOP 5 best pellet boilers: which one to choose, characteristics, reviews

Pellets are wood and other waste from wood processing or agricultural enterprises, which are small pressed cylindrical granules. They are used as fuel for pellet boilers. These boilers, like any other types of solid fuel heating equipment, are one of the few reasonable solutions if the house is not connected to a gas pipeline.

How does a boiler work?

A device operating on pellets is a type of solid fuel boiler. The operating principle of such devices is consistent. First, the user pours pellets into a hopper, from where they are then moved into the firebox under the influence of a screw-type conveyor.

When pellets are burned, gases are released, which subsequently go through several stages of combustion in different chambers, due to which the pellets are completely recycled.

The heat exchanger is made of cast iron or steel. Equipped with an automatic type electrical control system. Temperature regulation occurs by supplying a certain amount of fuel. The volume and time of pellet supply are programmed using the settings. There it is possible to configure the mode of switching from one fuel to another in case of its absence.

What are pellets

The production technology was invented in the thirties of the last century. The birthplace of the invention is Idaho, USA. The essence of the method for producing pellets is to compress preheated wood waste. When heated, sawdust, wood chips or shavings release lignin. This substance has the ability to bind small wood particles together.

Under high pressure they are compressed into smooth granules. The finished product has high density and heat transfer during combustion.

No chemicals are used in the production of pellets. This makes them an environmentally friendly fuel. Granules are produced according to the DIN plus standard.

Agricultural waste can be used as a raw material for the production of pellets: corn cobs, husks, etc. The most common type of granules in the country are pellets, with a diameter of 6-8 mm and a length of up to 50 mm.

The efficiency of heating solid fuel boilers largely depends on the quality of the pellets: humidity, density, ash content. When burning 1 ton of pellets, thermal energy is released equivalent to 1.6 tons of firewood.

Attractive design and high-quality assembly became strong arguments in our purchase. My husband does the installation himself at home. The installation process was successful and did not cause many difficulties, only minor doubts. It has been working properly for a year now and does not cause any discomfort. It copes efficiently with the task of heating the room and consumes a small amount of fuel, taking into account the operating time. We are happy with the purchase and recommend it to others.

Boiler Buderus

Kiturami KRP 20A

Periodically I go down to the boiler room to check the operating parameters and they always remain stable for a long time. The high-quality assembly of the structure allows you not to worry about long work sessions. The house is always warm and cozy. We enjoyed using this boiler at home and would like to recommend it to other users.

Boiler ACV ECO

Design and principle of operation

The complex of such equipment consists of several parts: a boiler, a bunker for loading fuel and a conveyor for feeding it into the furnace. The boiler has a burner, a fan that forces air into the combustion zone, various sensors for controlling the supply of pellets and cleaning the equipment from ash, as well as a control system responsible for the consistency of the operation of all components of the heating equipment. The schematic design of boilers where pellets are burned is shown in the figure below.

It all works roughly like this:

  1. The fuel loaded into the bunker is transferred by gravity and auger to the firebox.
  2. The firebox contains a burner with an electric ignition system, which ignites the pellets, ensuring the combustion of the granules. To increase combustion efficiency, air is supplied under pressure by a fan.
  3. The heated air passes through the heat exchanger, increasing the temperature of the coolant circulating in the heating system.
  4. Exhaust gases are removed from the system through the chimney. By the way, about the chimney: in modern boilers the fuel burns almost completely and the flue gases consist almost entirely of carbon dioxide and water vapor.

The technological processes are shown schematically in the figure below.

Why should you consider purchasing such a boiler as an alternative to any other equipment that uses bottled gas, coal or kerosene as fuel? There are several reasons:

  • fuel cost. It is relatively inexpensive, and every year more and more enterprises launch lines for the production of fuel pellets, which makes them even more accessible to the Russian consumer. So, the price for them varies from 4,000 to 7,000 rubles. per ton. On average, for heating a house of 200 square meters. meters, up to 10 tons of fuel are needed. It is easy to calculate that heating costs for 7 months will be approximately 40–60 thousand rubles. At least for now, the cost of pellets is their advantage - it is unknown what will happen when the demand for such fuel increases;
  • environmental friendliness. Using wood pellets solves the problem of waste disposal: you minimize damage to nature while heating your home. It’s not for nothing that pellets are classified as biofuel;
  • automation of the boiler operation process. Granular fuel has the necessary flowability for portion feeding by screws and under the influence of gravity. You can load a spacious bunker to operate the equipment for a week;
  • minor waste. The low ash content of the fuel (about 1%) minimizes the labor intensity of boiler maintenance work.

General recommendations

The TOP 5 pellet heating boilers are described above, each of which has passed the test of time and received customer ratings. However, these are not the only options for heating a home with solid fuel units.

Our company presents various models of equipment for heating private houses and detached premises that are not supplied with main gas. To get advice on the selected unit, call the managers or write to the online chat on the website.

Not every owner of a private house has the opportunity to connect to the main gas pipeline, and an electric boiler is often not suitable for owners due to its expensive operation. Solid fuel units are a more affordable option for organizing autonomous heating. And the best pellet boilers are more efficient than wood and coal models. The main thing is to choose the right power.

We present to your attention a list of the best boilers in three popular categories:

  • Best price.
  • High performance.
  • For a big house.

Let us dwell on these sections and study the boiler models described in them.

Automation

  • compliance with the temperature regime in the system;
  • control of pumps in the main and auxiliary (admixture circuit) circuits;
  • maintaining the set temperature of hot water supply;
  • control of coolant flows using a three-way valve.

If there is an automation unit, a person only needs to set the required temperature and load fuel, then the combustion process is controlled automatically according to the specified settings by controlling the supply of oxygen to the firebox. If heating is carried out using a pellet unit, then the fuel is loaded automatically.

Operating principle of three-way valve

If there is a three-way valve, the system works on the principle of mixing hot water from the boiler into the main flow when the temperature drops below the set one. This principle allows you to heat only the required amount of water. It can be supplied either directly from the boiler or from a buffer tank. At the same time, it can be heated by alternative sources, for example, a solar collector.

Tips for choosing

Pellet boilers are not very popular, but despite this there is a wide variety of models on sale, which makes choosing the right device more difficult. In order not to make a mistake with your choice, we suggest using some tips from experienced users:

  1. Buy a model with a certificate, because this way you will be completely sure of its safety.
  2. Consider the type of granules used in the job.
  3. The more power the device has, the better its offline performance will be.
  4. The voluminous container holds a lot of garbage and does not require frequent replacement.
  5. A boiler with automatic control is more convenient to use than a manual one, but here it is better to choose based on your own preferences.

Installation Rules

Pellet boilers are installed only in a separate room. For such purposes, a basement with a special floor covering - durable and made of non-combustible material - is suitable. Simple options are poured concrete or a base lined with metal sheets. The device itself is installed at a height within 10-20 cm.

The boiler room should be heated and have moderate humidity. The unit is installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions (so that there is free access for cleaning, repair and maintenance).

Conclusion

Heating with pellets is considered one of the most environmentally friendly, economical and safe ways to heat a home. Installing a granular heat generator will not only provide a comfortable heating temperature with economical fuel consumption, but will also create conditions for autonomous operation of the heating system.
