Pelletron owner reviews
Initially, we did not plan to produce pellet burners with a thermal power of up to 15 kW. The final “cross” came after the news about the Russian product “Pelletron”. After all, “Pelletron” is not just an extremely cheap pellet burner, but simply some kind of holiday:
a transfers BOILERS and OVEN to continuous operation
a has a fuel supply for a day + continuous burning
a does not require human presence during operation
a does not require electricity or maintenance
a has a long service life
a provides round-the-clock thermal comfort
And that's it.. NOTHING MORE IS NEEDED. Well, except for some nuances:
The best expert community in the field of “gravity burners” is located on the forum https://www.forumhouse.ru, then there are links to professional reviews about the “Pelletron” type pellet burner:
Below are the conclusions of the analysis (nuances) of the applicability of pellet burners of the “Pelletron” type:
- Strict requirements for “draft” , the chimney must create the “necessary draft”, otherwise the Pelletron-type pellet burner will not be able to reach the specified power, and will not be able to work;
- Difficult, the first start on a “cold” one, it is recommended to preheat the chimney by burning a small amount of flammable substance to warm up the chimney and “accelerate the draft”;
- Strict requirements for fuel: minimum ash content, strict particle size distribution - length no more than 20 mm, minimum humidity, that is, the pellets must be “premium” class, or “cat litter”;
- Periodic, mandatory cleaning of the fuel thermal decomposition cavity;
- The basic configuration includes a small hopper of 17 kg, but you can pay extra when ordering and the burner will be equipped with a hopper of 34 kg.
An analysis of the operational requirements of Pelletron-type pellet burners showed that they have and cover most of the market for inexpensive pellet burners, but not all. There is still a consumer segment that will not be able to meet the operational requirements of gravity burners. So, in order to cover this consumer segment, we launched a project with the working title “AUTOTRON” .
The following requirements for the AUTOTRON :
- not dependent on the draft of the heating unit - in order for the AUTOTRON to work stably and start, the consumer does not need to take measures to increase the height of the chimney, install a smoke exhauster, etc., preheat the chimney, etc.;
- omnivorous nature of granular fuel - stable burning of wood pellets, husks, etc., long-term, non-stop operation on fuel with an ash content of up to 13%, operation on fuel with a low ash melting point. That is, not any “premium” class fuel, but the simplest, most affordable fuel from the lower price category. Compliance with the principle: inexpensive burner - cheap fuel;
- low maintenance requirements - the burner, configured in accordance with the quality of the fuel and the condition of the heating unit, should ensure self-cleaning and stable, non-stop operation;
- Hopper capacity 36 kg pellets;
- boxed solution - upon purchase, the client receives all the necessary kit for organizing automatic solid fuel heating;
- thermal power up to 15 kW;
- work with the boiler temperature control unit (work under the control of any pellet burner control unit).
The first prototype was built according to the traditional gravity burner design, but with the following additions and changes:
- a boost fan was installed in the prototype housing, for stable operation, regardless of thrust, a gate was installed to adjust the fan performance;
- The combustion chamber (basket) was changed - transversely extendable grates, as well as the shelf-plate on which the granules burned and slag flew off, was replaced with a round, perforated, stainless pipe. The perforated pipe was driven into rotation by the fan gearbox and acted as a rotating grate, similar to the “carborobot” boiler.
- The cross-sectional area of the hopper feed channel was increased, and a screw dispenser was equipped in the reciprocal part of the burner, so that there would be a fire gap between the combustion chamber (basket) and the screw assembly.
After debugging and checking the “mechanics”, we started testing - it was a complete failure:
- the fan did not provide enough power;
- the auger kept jamming;
- it was difficult to light the burner, the backfire was steadily climbing into the bunker;
- the rotating grate did not justify itself.
The project was a failure, this prototype, this iron monstrosity, was pushed into the darkest corner of our museum “Field of Miracles” in the Land of Fools. Over the next 3 months, it was painful even to remember the AUTOTRON , but as they say - the eyes are afraid, but the hands do. After analyzing the failure with the first prototype, additional requirements for the project were formulated:
- we do not copy the Pelletron type burner, we make a cheap granular fuel burner for trouble-free operation;
- form factor - like a torch burner (look at the APG Teplodar burner);
- in the combustion zone there must be a mechanism that implements self-cleaning of the zone (scraper, plunger, agitator, walking grate, etc.);
- retail price per set: 300-350 usd.
And work began on the selection of components: fans, drives, technical solutions, materials, standard products, etc., after repeatedly combining various technical solutions and techniques, searching through various configurations, a preliminary design of the second prototype was developed, and a new “AUTOTRON” . The resulting copy began to be tested, modified, and remade. It was time to install a full-fledged fan, instead of a household duct fan. In the end, we got stable work, found out the conditions, documented changes, controlled parameters. This was already the result!
Having carefully studied the test results of the second prototype, we made changes and improvements to the design documentation, and after a while a commercial sample of the CREDO 12AT 15 kW “AUTOTRON” .
Conducted tests in all modes, and for a long duration. We carried out long-term tests of the operation of “AUTOTRON” under the control of the electronic regulator LUKSUS ECO R, with control of the set temperature, maintenance mode, etc. We obtained the value of the optimal remote control settings for operation on various heating units. Once again, and not for the last time, the design code was finalized.
ALL. The AUTOTRON project is completed.
Pellet burner CREDO 12AT 15 kW “AUTOTRON” has been put into production.
Principle of operation
So, to properly understand the operating principle of a pellet device, you should understand its design. It is quite simple and consists of 3 main parts: the boiler itself with a burner, a conveyor for feeding pellets and a fuel hopper. The functioning of the boiler is ensured as follows:
- Pellets are loaded into the fuel bunker.
- The pellets are supplied by a screw conveyor.
- In the process of burning pellets, they heat up the coolant.
The principle of combustion occurs “from top to bottom”. Such combustion occurs more slowly than when the fuel burns “from the bottom up,” so that the circulating gas flows involve the upper layers of the fuel in the combustion process. The rate of fuel combustion can be controlled by moving the fire zone downward. Thus, soot and ash are formed in minimal quantities, and efficiency increases up to 96%. Pellet boilers can operate on one bed for more than a day - quite convenient for use in domestic conditions.
Advantages and disadvantages
The advantages include the following:
- All heating boilers of this type are equipped with combustion chambers of small dimensions. This is a big plus for those who are limited in space.
- The device has high efficiency rates, about 95%.
- Long service life, more than 23 years.
- An automated fuel supply system and automatic temperature control lead to minimal owner participation in the process. And if you have a room for storing fuel, the device has the ability to work through the heating season without your participation.
- There is no need for constant cleaning of ash; it is enough to do it 2 times a month.
- They have a high degree of safety, minimizing the possibility of a fire or explosion. Automatic shutdown when the set temperature is reached.
- There is no need to obtain permission to install a pellet boiler from various government authorities. Self-assembly and installation is possible.
- Ability to set the mode that suits you.
Pellet boiler with indirect heating boiler - Minimal maintenance costs.
- It works very quietly.
The disadvantages include the following:
- Fairly high market value.
- There is a high probability of equipment failure when using low quality fuel.
- We are dependent on electricity.
- High cost of pellets. Despite the fact that they are made from wood waste, the heat generated is more expensive than boiler equipment that runs on wood.
- The place for storing pellets must be dry, this is not always possible. Because when using soaked raw materials, the screws become clogged.

What to look for when choosing
What parameters will make the purchase the most profitable? Please note the following:
- Certificate. Be sure to purchase a product with a certificate - it indicates the safety of the device.
- Type of granules. Pay attention to the pellets that are used in certain types of boiler. Some models have specific instructions for the type of granules.
- Power. The more powerful the device, the better – this model will work longer in autonomous mode.
- Container volume. This parameter affects the frequency of boiler maintenance. The smaller the volume, the more often you will have to change fuel.
- Principle of operation. There are two options here: either a boiler with automatic regulation or a manual one. Choose the one that is more convenient for you personally.
Maintenance
Heating a home using pellet boilers requires little maintenance . They usually have an open heating system, so you need to monitor the water level in the system. You can automatically supply water replenishment to the heating system.
The boiler itself must be cleaned of soot, especially the heat exchanger jacket, as this affects the consumption of pellets. Smoke exhaust pipes need to be cleaned. This does not take much time, and the moment when cleaning is necessary can be determined visually by looking at the water jacket, or if the consumption of pellets has increased. The deadline is when the boiler begins to smoke into the room.
If pellets are supplied using a rigid auger, then it is necessary to periodically clean this system from dust that accumulates in the air supply channels.
