2 x circuit electric boiler for heating a house of 100 square meters

Electric boilers are a popular device for heating private houses and apartments. They have become more widespread due to their advantages:

  • 99% efficiency - that is, the boiler almost completely uses the energy consumed. For comparison: the efficiency of coal boilers is approximately 80%, the efficiency of gas boilers is 92%
  • Simple installation - no need to equip a chimney or boiler room; They are compact and can be installed on the kitchen or bathroom wall.
  • Affordable fuel - electricity is available in every home. Gas often needs to be supplied, coal, firewood, liquid fuel need to be purchased and stored somewhere. There are no such problems with electricity.
  • Safety - there are no open flames in electric boilers, which means no combustion products.
  • Low price - the simplest and cheapest models of electric boilers cost from 5-6 thousand rubles
  • High degree of automation - modern models of electric boilers are equipped with weather-dependent temperature control devices, remote control, and automatic security systems.

Heating a house with electricity

Nowadays, home heating with electricity is becoming increasingly popular. Most often, this method is used in places where there is no central gas pipeline.

Let's try to calculate the energy consumption for heating a 100 m² house using a specific example.

Before you start installing your heating

Practice shows that such an alternative source of home heating is the future.

Before installing such a heating system in your home, you need to decide:

  • which method is most suitable for you,
  • how much money are you willing to spend on this venture in order to be able to save later,
  • how powerful the source of electricity is in the building.

It is these factors that should influence the choice of a home heating system.

Case Study

Let's give a practical example of electricity consumption for heating a 100 m² house.

  1. The efficiency of an electric boiler is basically 100%. For 1 kW of heat energy, 1.03 kW of electricity is consumed.
  2. Let’s take, for example, the electricity tariff for heating a house is 4 rubles.
  3. The heat consumption coefficient for heating 10 m² is equal to 1 kW, for this example 10 kW of heat per area of 100 m².
  4. The average daily energy consumption rate is 1 kW/hour, which means: 10 kW x 24 hours = 240 kW.
  5. We take the uninterrupted operation of the boiler as a basis, that is, we calculate the maximum per month: 240 x 30 = 7200 kW.

Total, monthly calculation: 7200 kW x 4 rubles = 28,800 rubles.

These are maximum calculations taking into account the constant operation of the boiler, which does not happen in practice. After all, having heated the house to a certain point, it turns off and does not work, and accordingly there is no energy consumption. Therefore, the resulting value can be safely divided by 2 = 14,400 rubles/month.

Types of boilers

To heat a private home, single-phase and three-phase boilers are most often used. Their choice is a responsible matter, since your energy costs depend on it.

After installing boiler equipment, the load on power lines increases significantly. Therefore, first of all, you need to contact the company that supplies electricity in your area and find out the maximum current strength.

When calculating kilowatts of energy, take into account the presence of working electrical appliances in the house.

Single-phase electric boiler for home heating

The characteristics of a single-phase boiler are as follows:

  • works like any simple electrical device;
  • 220V network required;
  • installation without permits.

Three-phase electric boiler for heating a private house.

Such a boiler has more power than a single-phase one, so it can be installed in houses larger than 100 m².

To operate the boiler, a 380 V network is required.

Characteristics of a three-phase boiler:

  • power. For 10 m² you need 1 kW + 10-20% (as a reserve);
  • operation from three phases 380 V, an increase in the current supply power in the room is required;
  • For installation, you need to take permission from the energy sales office in order to increase the power used and install the boiler.

Electricity costs for heating a house of 100 m²

It is known that you have to pay a lot for electricity in a private home. Above we have already given calculations for heating a house of 100 m². It is worth mentioning that the climatic conditions in Russia must also be taken into account.

Prolonged frosts do not exceed one to two weeks, but there are exceptions when the winter is especially severe. During such periods, the electric boiler operates at full power. The rest of the time, at an air temperature of -15 – 20º C, only half, thus reducing heating costs.

Basically, Europeans maintain the temperature in the house at a level where for our people it seems that the house is very fresh.

And indeed, this way they pay less. The same applies to water tariffs. Maybe we should adopt their practice and not fire in houses to the fullest. Then you won’t have to complain that heating a private house is expensive.

Important! Summing up, we conclude that the total cost of heating a house, provided good thermal insulation, with a total area of 100 m² in the central regions of Russia and the Urals will be about 50-60 thousand rubles for the entire heating season.

Factors that affect electricity consumption

To correctly calculate electricity consumption for heating a house and decide on the installation of a boiler, you need to pay attention to the following nuances:

  1. area of the room for heating;
  2. type of boiler;
  3. current magnitude;
  4. mains voltage;
  5. power cable section;
  6. boiler power for heating housing;
  7. boiler capacity;
  8. duration of the heating period and boiler operation;
  9. cost 1 kW/hour;
  10. daily operating time at maximum load.

Installing an electric boiler for heating a private home is the most profitable option. To install it, you don’t need to select a room for it, and you don’t need a chimney vent. The efficiency index is 100% and remains at this level throughout the entire period of operation.

Note. The heating season period is 7 months.

Other heat sources

At such times, electricity consumption is minimal, and the cost of payment is lower than during the daytime. A flexible tariff allows consumers to save about one-third of their money costs. Maximum loads on the network occur during the periods 08:00 – 11:00 and 20:00 – 22:00.

In order to achieve maximum efficiency of the heating system, it is necessary to install circulation pumping equipment.

The pump is connected to the return network, thus reducing the time of contact of the boiler walls with the hot coolant. This method increases the life of the equipment for a long time.

Also remember that good insulation of a house during construction helps reduce electricity and heating costs. Placing solar panels on the roof of a house or installing wind turbines to generate electricity are effective methods of saving.

The feasibility of purchasing electric boilers

Despite these advantages, we do not claim that electric boilers are the best and most universal way to heat a home. It all depends on the circumstances.

Let's try to answer the question of who benefits from using electric boilers and when.

  1. When gas is not supplied. Gas is the cheapest fuel, and heating a house with it is much more economical than using electricity. But in areas remote from the gas main, or lack of budget or time to connect gas, electric boilers will be a quick and inexpensive (but not operational) solution.
  2. When the house is very well insulated. The amount of heat required to heat a room directly depends on heat losses - they need to be blocked. With small heat losses, heating with electricity takes place. Although gas would still be cheaper))
  3. If you rarely visit the house - for example, at a dacha or in a country house. Modern models of electric boilers are able to maintain a given temperature - you can set the minimum temperature at which the heating system will not freeze, and when you are about to arrive, give a signal to the boiler that you need to warm the house to a comfortable temperature.
  4. As a temporary solution. If winter is close and there is no time to work on the heating system, an accident has occurred and you urgently need to find a heating method.
  5. As an additional source of heat. Low-power electric boilers are often used in heating systems as backup ones, so that if the main boiler (coal, gas, liquid fuel) fails, the room does not freeze.

Double-circuit electric boiler

Heating boilers powered by electricity are successfully used to heat cottages outside the city and houses in summer cottages. They have proven their performance, reliability and modest size. But for housing outside the city, it is important to have a hot water supply. In this case, a double-circuit electric boiler comes to the rescue.

This unit replaces the work of an entire boiler room and can be wall-mounted or floor-mounted. Its connection is possible to a network with one phase or three phases. Some samples are made with two electrical circuits for connecting heating elements - 220 and 380 V. You can buy electric double-circuit heating boilers in.

Buy electric double-circuit heating boilers

Two coolant circulation circuits perform the functions of heating the living space and supplying hot water. Moreover, the first circuit is closed, which reduces energy costs. A double-circuit electric heating boiler has circuits that do not have common coolant lines.

A separate circuit is equipped with its own heating element, operating according to a given temperature regime. An electronic control system controls the water temperature for two autonomous circuits. It is possible to control the air temperature in the living area. This depends on where the sensors are installed. Preference is given to a room temperature sensor.

In addition to two heaters, the unit contains an expansion tank, a safety valve and a pump for circulating coolant. The heating element is automatically turned on to heat the room according to the specified temperature parameters. And the heating element for hot water is turned on when the hot water tap is open.

Possibilities for increasing the efficiency of heating with electricity

Despite the fact that today utility tariffs continue to increase, electricity has a strong margin in cost compared to other types of energy. Residents of apartment buildings who want to become independent and independent from central heating should not be afraid of high costs. Proper calculation of the heating scheme and connection of electric heating devices, the transition to multi-tariff meters will allow you to get the necessary heat in your home and regularly save on electricity costs.

If there is no technical possibility, installing gas or electric heating will be a real way out of the current situation.

Simple calculation of electric boiler power

Those who do not want to bother with complex calculations can use a simple method for selecting the power of an electric boiler. It was experimentally determined that heating 1 square meter of a medium-insulated house requires 0.1 kW of heat. Accordingly, 100 m² requires a 10 kW electric boiler. Depending on your understanding of the term “medium insulation,” you can add or subtract 10-20%.

This method has a right to exist, although it is more like a “finger in the sky”, since it does not even take into account the height of the ceiling. Therefore, it is more correct to calculate the power of an electric boiler based on the volume of the building. To do this, we need to multiply the area of the house (100 square meters) by its height (say, 2.5 meters). 100 x 2.5 = 250 m³.

According to standards, heating 1 m³ of living space requires 40 W of thermal power. We consider 250 x 40 = 1000 W or, lo and behold, the same 10 kW as in the approximate calculations. However, we took a slightly lower ceiling height. If you have, say, 3 meters, then the electric boiler for heating your home should already be 12 kW.

As you can see from the table, the larger the area of the house, the higher the cost of each kW of thermal energy obtained when heating with convectors and the lower when heating with an electric boiler. At the same time, the advantages and efficiency of an electric boiler are obvious.

BoilersHeatersElectric boilers

Accounting for heat loss at home: most importantly, without fanaticism

Personally, I would advise you to stop at the previous paragraph, since all further figures can lead to complete ruin. After all, you can also take into account heat loss due to windows and doors. Each window – plus 100 W, door – 200 W. Accordingly, if you have one door and 8 windows, then you need to add another 1 kW.

Place of residence also plays an important role. There is a special “region coefficient” that ranges from 0.7 to 1.9. Depending on whether you live “in the south” or in the Far North, you multiply the power of the electric boiler by that figure. In central Russia, the coefficient ranges from 1.2 to 1.4.

But that's not all. What if there is abnormal frost for several days? You need a reserve of at least 20 percent. And if you plan to heat the water with the same boiler, then add another 10-15%. Thus, our electric boiler for heating a house of 100 square meters is already very close to a power of 20 kW. Please note that we did not delve into the quality and size of windows, and did not even get to the thermal conductivity of walls, floors, and ceilings. What can we say about ventilation losses and the desired temperature inside the room...

No, if you wish, any more or less serious specialized company will undertake to calculate a project for you, taking into account all the indicators. But, in most cases, this is wasted money. Firstly, for the project itself, and secondly, for a more expensive boiler than you expected. After all, you will be strongly advised to take with a good supply, which then, as a rule, turns out to be superfluous.

Electric boiler for heating: the most economical option

Of course, some power reserve is needed. However, this should not reach the point of absurdity when some “specialists” in all seriousness (and based on calculations) propose installing a 35-kilowatt electric boiler in a house with an area of 100 sq.m.

The experience of people who have been using electricity for heating for a long time shows that it is not always necessary to “take with reserve”. There are at least three reasons for this.

Power restrictions . An electric boiler up to 6-7 kW can be included in an existing single-phase network without significant modernization. Boilers from 7 to 12 kW will require cable laying with a cross-section of up to 16 mm2. And electric heating boilers with a power of over 12 kW can only be connected to a three-phase network (380 V), with all the ensuing consequences. It should also be taken into account that not everywhere the state of electrical networks allows for more than 10 kW to be allocated to a house.

Size matters . It’s not enough to choose an economical electric boiler for heating your home; you also need to figure out where to hide it in 100 square meters. If a compact, low-power model can be placed in a corridor or under a staircase, then larger ones will require a separate boiler room.

Plan b . It is highly undesirable to use exclusively an electric boiler to heat your home. Electricity tends to disappear at the most inopportune moment, when it is -20°C outside the window. At such moments, a solid fuel boiler, fireplace or conventional stove will be very useful. In addition to force majeure, they can also be lit in cold weather, instead of buying a double-power electric boiler “just in case.”

Thus, the most economical option for heating a house of 100 square meters would be an electric boiler with a capacity of 7 to 12 kW, supplemented by a stove or solid fuel boiler.

As for specific models, it is difficult to advise anything. As we found out in the article about heaters, electrical energy is converted into heat with an efficiency close to 100%. Therefore, the domestic Rusnit and the sophisticated Bosch will heat almost equally. When choosing, you should take into account the condition of your wallet, ease of use, and do not forget about common sense.

How does a double-circuit electric boiler work?

The operating principle of a double-circuit electric heating and hot water boiler can be described as follows:

  • The housing contains a tubular heating element (TEN). When an electric current passes, the inner spiral heats up. The heat obtained as a result of heating is transferred to the heating surface in contact with the coolant.
  • Heat is transferred from the surface of the heating element to the coolant through natural or forced circulation of liquid in the heating system. The coolant enters a container with an electric heater, passing through which it comes into contact with the heated surface and accumulates heat.
  • The heated liquid enters the heating system, releasing heat through radiators or heated floors.

The DHW and heating circuits operate in almost identical ways. When you open a hot water tap, the heating element turns on and begins to heat the liquid in a flow-through manner.

Double-circuit energy-saving electric heating boilers have a built-in storage tank - a boiler. The heated water is stored in a storage tank, with heat loss not exceeding 1°C per few hours. After opening the tap, hot water is immediately supplied to the consumer. The savings achieved thanks to the built-in storage capacity reach 10-15%.

Modern household double-circuit electric boilers of many European companies are created taking into account the connection to low-temperature heating systems - “warm floors”, without the need to install additional equipment.

Electric boilers are available in wall-mounted and floor-mounted (stationary) versions.

Mounted 2-circuit electric boilers

Floor-standing electric boilers with two circuits

Installation of a double-circuit boiler in a floor-mounted design is justified for providing heat to a private home or cottage. More powerful devices than their wall-mounted counterparts do a good job of heating living spaces and preparing sufficient quantities of hot water.

Double-circuit floor-standing electric boilers take up a lot of usable space. They are produced with a minimum output of 10-18 kW (depending on the chosen manufacturer), therefore, they are mainly used in private houses or cottages.

High productivity in the design of floor-standing boilers is combined with a built-in storage tank (not present in all models), automation and high DHW throughput. Solutions with the additional connection of an external heat accumulator are popular, which allows saving on electricity by at least 25-30%.

The essence of the solution comes down to the fact that a connection is made to a three-tariff meter. The boiler operates at full capacity only at night, when electricity is available at a reduced price. During this time, the heated water enters the heat accumulator. During the daytime, the boiler turns off.

The coolant is heated using previously stored heat. The solution is optimally suited for low-temperature heating systems.

How to make heating cheaper

Even the most modern and economical equipment will waste energy if the house is not insulated. Thermal insulation is required not only for walls, but also for the foundation, plinth, roof, and openings. The thickness of the insulation should be calculated taking into account the climatic zone and all layers that make up the enclosing structure. Entrance doors with a thermal break, double-glazed windows, insulated floors on the ground - all this will save the lion's share of electricity and not heat the street at your own expense.

If you solve the problem in a comprehensive manner, you can achieve very good results. To do this you need:

  • Have a power allocated to the house of at least 15 kW. If it is insufficient, it will not be possible to save energy. The equipment will turn on and off frequently, resulting in excessive current consumption.
  • Design and install an economical low-temperature heating system. It is necessary to calculate the power of radiators, install thermostatic heads and temperature sensors.
  • Use a heat accumulator. At night, it will accumulate thermal energy, and during the day it will compensate for its lack.

In houses that cannot be gasified, the electricity tariff is significantly lower. The state provides social support so that residents can use cheap heating with electricity and satisfy their household needs without much damage to the family budget.

Almost all regions have a tariff program. This means that from 7 am to 11 pm the prices are high, and at night they are 2-4 times lower. To use tariffing, you must install a two-tariff meter. Since the single tariff does not differentiate energy consumption by time, but only displays the total consumption, you will not be able to take advantage of economical electricity.

Choosing a double-circuit electric boiler

To select a boiler that suits the technical characteristics of the house and meets the needs of the owners, they determine the required power, the manufacturer’s brand, and then select boiler equipment in an affordable price category.

What power does the boiler need - let’s do the calculation

The procedure for calculating an electric double-circuit boiler includes the need to calculate the total power sufficient separately for heating and hot water supply:

  • The performance of a 2-circuit electric heating boiler, sufficient for heating residential premises, is calculated using the formula 1 kW = 10 m2. About 15% of the reserve is added to the result obtained.
  • Next, the DHW calculation is carried out - for classic double-circuit electric mounted heating and hot water supply boilers operating in flow-through water heating mode, about 15-20% is added to the calculated power + reserve.
  • When calculating a boiler with a built-in boiler, they are guided by the manufacturer’s recommendations and the power indicators indicated by him, sufficient for heating water and heating.

The calculations touch on another area related to the amount of electricity consumed. Manufacturers, depending on energy consumption, produce two basic models of electric heaters: single-phase and three-phase.

The first, single-phase, are produced with a power of up to 8 kW and are connected to a 220V network. In the technical documentation, single-phase boilers are classified as conventional water heaters (boilers), therefore, when connecting, they do not require additional permits and the allocation of a separate voltage branch.

If the power consumption exceeds 8 kW, install a three-phase boiler. Connection to the electrical network is carried out via a separate 380V branch. If the line is not connected to the house, a request is made to increase energy consumption.

Main manufacturers - who to choose

European companies remain leaders in the production of double-circuit boilers. The models offered by the concerns are characterized by high efficiency, safety and reliability of assembly. The design uses the latest technologies to protect the heater from scale and prevent failure during voltage surges.

Domestic electric boilers with two circuits deserve special mention. The products of Russian companies are fully adapted to operating conditions. Although the boilers are inferior in functionality to foreign analogues, they are not inferior in reliability and performance, and in some cases even surpass the latter.

There are several models that are in constant demand among consumers:

  • Russia:
  • EVAN Ecowatti,
  • ThermoStyle EPN,

  • Savitr Premium.
  • Europe:
    • ACV E-tech S,
    • Wespe Heizung Kombi,

  • Jaspi FIL-B.
  • Ukraine: ROSS AOE.
  • Most of these models are presented in the premium class and use energy-saving technologies in their work.

    Prices for electric boilers with two circuits

    The cost of a 2-circuit electric boiler depends on several factors:

    1. Options.
    2. Manufacturer and place of assembly.
    3. Productivity.

    Premium domestic electric boiler, offered starting from 20 thousand rubles. The basic model of a European brand will cost 1.5-2 times more. Prices start from 30 thousand rubles. and higher.

    Pros and cons of double-circuit electric boilers

    Reviews from owners about 2-circuit electric boilers show that equipment of this type is not popular. The most commonly used scheme is a single-circuit boiler and an external boiler. The solution increases the efficiency level of the boiler and its energy efficiency. Electricity costs, compared to double-circuit electric boilers, are reduced by 15-20%.

    Despite the existing disadvantages, double-circuit boilers are in certain demand. Judging by the statistics, they are installed when connecting autonomous heating and hot supply to a small apartment. Small size and the ability to obtain hot water without installing additional equipment are the main advantages and advantages of this design, ensuring the necessary popularity.
