Navien boilers are widely known in the heating equipment market.
There are several reasons for this: versatility (they can be installed in a private house or apartment, as well as in non-residential premises), quality, automation of the boiler operation process and, at the same time, an affordable price. But any equipment can sometimes fail. And the fault here is not at all in the quality of the boiler itself. Is your Navien boiler showing an error on the display? Often problems are associated with incorrect installation, irregularities during operation, lack of service or its low level and other factors. Therefore, Navien boiler errors may appear on the screen periodically.

The main thing is to know what the error codes of Navien boilers mean in order to assess the situation and find a solution to the problem. Read the error codes of Navien boilers, the reasons for their occurrence and possible solutions from specialists below.

Error 02

Error 02 indicates that the Navien boiler has a low coolant level. Or there is a problem with the flow sensor. As a rule, when the Navien boiler gives error 02, boiling water comes out of the hot water tap for the first seconds, and then cold water. That is, the water temperature suddenly becomes maximum and also drops sharply.

How to fix error 02

1. Adjust the pressure in the heating system. 2. If there is excess air, bleed it through a special valve. 3. If the problem occurs due to a closed distribution valve, open it. 4. Check the functionality of the flow sensor.

Rules of operation and maintenance

Gas equipment is a high-tech unit with a rich automatic system. To extend the service life and avoid breakdowns, you must adhere to the following rules:

  1. The boiler must be installed only in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements.
  2. Materials and components must be of good quality.
  3. It is necessary to check the gas and water supply sensors before each start-up of the equipment. Cleaning of components should be done regularly, and not only in case of error 03 for the Navien gas boiler.

In many situations, you can repair the equipment yourself. For preventive purposes, it is recommended to supplement the unit with some parts: a water and gas filter, a polyphosphate or magnetic water converter. To protect the electronics, you can connect the equipment through a voltage stabilizer.

Error 09

Error 09 of the Navien boiler notifies about problems (failures) in the operation of the fan. The fan motor may be faulty. Another reason is a malfunction of the control board.

How to resolve error 09

1. Check the fan motor for short circuit or open circuit. 2. If necessary, replace the fan. 3. If the problem is a control board failure, try restarting the boiler. If it doesn't help, change the board. 4. Check the voltage in the fan motor. And the voltage in the electrical network. If it is higher than normal, use a voltage stabilizer

Repair

To remove the transformer, you must:

  • disconnect the connector by pressing the lock;
  • Carefully remove the ignition electrodes.

Connection occurs in reverse order:

  • first the electrodes are connected;
  • then the connector is fixed.

Now you can reconnect the power supply and turn on the boiler in operating mode. The pump turned on, the fan started and a spark occurred.

Turn off the boiler again and turn off the power supply. We connect the electrodes to the boiler firebox. It is important to do this very carefully so as not to damage the gasket.

Error 10

Error 10 of the Navien boiler indicates a malfunction of the smoke removal system. It may be a clogged chimney, a bend in the tubes from the air pressure sensor, or an incorrect connection. Another possible reason for this error to appear is strong gusts of wind.

How to resolve error 10

1. Check, repair or replace the fan. 2. Check and clean the chimney, if necessary. 3. Check how the tubes from the air sensor are connected. Avoid any kinks.

E01 - overheating

The appearance of an error with code 01 means that the boiler has overheated and the emergency sensor has tripped. The first thing to do in this situation is to let the heater cool down. Next, you need to understand why exactly the overheating occurred.

In most cases, this is caused by clogging or airing of the heating system in the section before entering the boiler. In the case of atmospheric models, in which the combustion chamber is made of an open type, a common cause of overheating is a breakdown of the circulation pump. Water stops moving along the heating circuit and does not take away the heat generated by the boiler. In this case, you need to change the pump.

The Navien boiler issues error 16 when the heating equipment overheats. The sensor is triggered by overheating and blocks the operation of the boiler. The problem may be a malfunction of the sensor itself.

How to resolve error 16

1. Allow the boiler to cool down and restart it. 2. If the problem is a lack of water in the heating system, add it. 3. If the sensor itself is faulty, replace it. 4. Check the operation of the three-way valve. In case of malfunction, replace the tap. 5. Restart the boiler. It might be the control board. It may be necessary to replace the board.

Error 27 informs about an open or short circuit in the APS air pressure sensor circuit.

How to resolve error 27

1. Check the APS air pressure sensor.
If a circuit fault is detected, replace the APS sensor. 2. If there is no commutation between the APS sensor contacts and the control unit connector, disconnect the APS sensor connector from the control unit connector connector, and then connect them again for normal contact. 3. Causes of Navien boiler malfunctions

Any malfunctions of Navien boilers that are under warranty must be carried out by a service organization.

Before visiting a service organization, the consumer needs to turn on the diagnostic system, analyze the probable causes of the failure and evaluate the possibility of repair.

Error codes in Navien boilers are classified according to 3 structural elements:

  • leaks in the heating circuit;
  • the ignition system does not work;
  • low parameters in the gas network.

Not all errors require the participation of service specialists. For example, the absence of a torch in a piezo igniter can be caused by a failure of the primary flame sensor, zero gas fuel pressure in the line, when the head valve is mistakenly closed, or in the event of a faulty ground loop.

Therefore, troubleshooting begins with inspecting the primary sensor, which must be clean and without damage. After cleaning the surface of the primary sensor, the boiler operation is checked again.

E03 – the sensor does not “see” the flame

There are several possible reasons: either the gas does not flow to the burner, or the ignition does not work, or there is a problem in the signal transmission circuit. It is best to identify what is really going on using a sequential scheme:

  1. We check whether the gas valve is open and whether gas is supplied. If your boiler is powered from the same source as your gas stove, check that the latter produces a normal fire. If it is low and weak, then this indicates low pressure in the line. In this situation, we call the gas service. If there is no gas at all, check the position of the valve on the gas sensor. Perhaps he was “knocked out” and because of this the gas supply was cut off.
  2. Through the viewing window we determine whether there is a flame in the chamber.
  3. If it is not there, measure the resistance on the gas valve coils. For fuse coils (located on the right), the optimal resistance is about 5.5 kOhm; on the modulator coil (you can recognize it by the presence of a screw) there should be at least 40 Ohms.
  4. We check whether the electrodes in the ignition system produce a spark. If it is not there, measure the voltage supplied to the ignition transformer - it requires at least 220V to operate. If everything is fine with the power supply, then the fault most likely lies in the transformer. If voltage is not supplied to it, then you need to change the controller.
  5. If there is a fire in the chamber, we check whether it is “coming off” from the burner - in such a situation, only the nozzles under the electrodes will work, without using the ionization sensor. This may be caused by incorrect operating settings specified from the board, or by a failure of the APS sensor that controls air pressure.
  6. We inspect the yellow hose running from the fan to the air pressure sensor. The hose must be connected correctly and not damaged.
  7. We check whether the grounding contact is connected to the boiler body, whether it is securely fixed, and whether the conductors of the grounding wire have burst.
  8. We inspect the Venturi nozzle located inside the fan - for proper operation there should be no foreign objects in it. Even a fly that accidentally gets into the nozzle can cause a problem: the APS sensor will transmit erroneous information, the fan speed will be selected incorrectly, and the flame will come off the burner.

Albeit with a much lower probability, but still error 03 in Navien boilers may have other causes. For example, a problem with the ignition electrodes is damage to the insulation or a change in the gap between them, which should be 3.5-4.5 mm. Powering the boiler with electricity from a gas generator can also lead to this problem. The phase of the latter is not particularly stable, and voltage is present at both the phase and zero contacts. So, if you need uninterrupted operation of the boiler, power it from an inverter-type generator or connect it through a capacious UPS.

Models

Knowing the general characteristics of the system, of course, will not be enough.
You should also understand the specifics of its individual versions. Thus, “Ace K 13,” according to the manufacturer, harmoniously combines considerations of convenience and aesthetics. When developing the model, it was taken into account that a variety of people have a need for it, and thanks to the efforts of specialists, it was possible to create a true leader in the price group. This modification is supplied to a variety of countries in Europe and Asia, and everywhere it causes predominantly positive emotions. The main concept that the designers adhered to was to ensure the highest level of reliability that is possible for modern technology.

The manufacturer indicates that this boiler should only be installed in rooms with a total area of ​​130 sq. m. m.

  • in bathrooms;
  • in kitchens;
  • in the bathrooms;

The boiler will reliably warm up the house even at very low temperatures outside. It will not be hindered by either insufficient water quality or power surges in the electrical network. If any problems arise, the assistance of the service center will not be long in coming. A problem typical for the Russian climate, such as freezing of the coolant during cold weather, has been solved.

In an hour, 1.33 cubic meters will be consumed. m of natural or 1.16 kg of liquefied gas, while the heating of the coolant will reach 30-60 degrees, water will enter the water supply circuit at a temperature of 40 to 80 degrees.

  • the presence in the assortment of only dual-circuit models;
  • the ability to choose between atmospheric devices and products with forced draft;
  • the presence of systems compatible with a coaxial chimney, as well as versions providing for its separate design.

Boilers manufactured in South Korea are equipped with a pair of separate heat exchangers, one of which is responsible for the water supply circuit, and the other for the heating circuit, but both are formed from stainless steel grades

What is important is that the company makes all the main components in its own factories. Therefore, the problem of incompatibility of components disappears, stable interaction between them is guaranteed

The electronics are designed and constructed in such a way that sudden voltage surges do not lead to dangerous consequences. Some German boilers have a similar level of protection, but they belong to a completely different price group.

The instability of Russian power grids is too great, and therefore it is better to connect South Korean Navien boilers using a voltage stabilizer. The heating devices themselves are equipped with a remote monitor that shows codes for certain failures.

Decoding the code

The boiler instructions say briefly: fan malfunction. An unambiguous interpretation – failure – is incorrect. Error 09 is not necessarily caused by a breakdown of the device: its incorrect operation is also the cause of emergency blocking of Navien.

The control panel is not built into Korean boilers. Testing of the unit and setting parameters is done from the remote control. Errors also appear on its display. Once you know what the buttons do, it's easy to follow the steps below.

Step 1

Restart Navien. Imported equipment, unlike domestic boilers, reacts to power supply problems. And we have enough of them, from phase imbalances to low voltage. The electronic circuit records this as a malfunction and blocks the operation of the heating unit. If error 09 is caused by this reason, it will disappear after resetting.

Step 2

Check connections. There are two wires connected to the Navien boiler fan. An open circuit, a short circuit, unreliable contact - and error 09 is guaranteed.

Measure the voltage. The norm for the Navien boiler is 230/1f, maximum deviation 10%.

Step 4

Check the fan. When turned on, its blades must rotate at a speed of at least 400 rpm. Otherwise, even before ignition, the automation will react and block the Navien boiler with error 09. Testing is carried out by lightly touching the impeller. Normal rotation indicates that the mechanical part of the fan is working properly.

Probable Causes

  1. Insufficient speed due to interturn short circuit or problems with kinematics. If the problem is in the winding, the fan is replaced, and after service, error 09 disappears. Incorrect operation of the device is caused by a number of factors.
  • Blade contamination. The fan unit needs to be removed and cleaned.
  • Bearing failure. It can be changed independently; shaft alignment is not required.

No rotation. If voltage is supplied to the Navien boiler fan, there are no complaints about the mechanics, but the impeller is motionless, the problem is in the winding. Its resistance is in the range of 23–25 Ohms. When R = 0 – short circuit, = ∞ – open circuit: the fan unit is replaced.

Step 5

Replace the Navien boiler board. If previous actions did not produce results, then this is the cause of error 09. It generates fault codes based on signals received from sensors.

Useful tips

The occurrence of false boiler errors caused by the supply voltage can be eliminated by connecting Navien to the network via a UPS. Not everyone understands the difference between this block and the stabilizer. For a Korean unit, the latter is not needed - the heating installation has its own built-in and efficient circuit. In addition, if there are breaks in the line or problems with the gas generator, this device will not help - the Navien boiler will stop. But the UPS (stabilizer + charger + batteries) will provide long-term operation in autonomous mode until problems with power supply/voltage are eliminated.

When calling a service representative, you should make sure that the organization is a regional division of Navien or is certified by the manufacturer. If this is just a workshop for repairing heating equipment, problems are possible: lack of diagrams, guidelines for eliminating errors, spare parts, and trained specialists. The result is delays and poor quality service.

E13 – short circuit on the exhaust gas flow sensor

If the pump has already stopped, and the sensor sends a signal to the board about the presence of flow within 15 seconds, then we try to replace, first of all, the OB sensor. But keep in mind that you will have to reset the error manually. To do this, use the Stand-by button.

Another possible cause of error 13 in Navien boilers is sticking of the OB sensor. We turn off the boiler, then the sensor - and ring the last one, monitoring the resistance. It should not change when ringing. Otherwise, the sensor must be replaced.

If the resistance remains unchanged, then we climb into the design of the sensor. There is a special flag here that reacts to the state of the boiler. If it is disabled, the checkbox should be lowered; if enabled, the checkbox should be raised.

E04 – parasitic flame

This code is issued if the system receives a false signal about the presence of a flame on the burner, although the gas valve does not receive a signal from the board.

The first possible reason is gas leakage through the valve. Shut off the gas pipeline valve before it enters the boiler, wait at least 1 minute and use a pressure gauge to measure the pressure at the gas inlet fitting. Standard range -130-250 mm H.S.

The second reason is a spark from the electrode hitting the flame sensor. This problem can be solved by replacing the electrode block.

A less likely, but still possible cause of error 04 in Navien boilers is excess gas pressure in the line, exceeding the operating values ​​​​set by the manufacturer. This problem should be solved by the gas service.

If the above manipulations do not bring results, troubleshooting comes down to replacing the controller board.
